“It is the darkness that I remember most of all. The darkness and the strangeness of it all.”
These are the opening lines of one of the most touching and heartfelt stories I’ve ever read. This is the story of a young girl living a nightmare, unable to reach out for help. Unable to fight back. Most scarily of all, it’s true.
I first came across the prologue of this book on Urbis.com. I was taken in by Jayne Sterne’s writing and quickly wrote a review. Later, I had a message from Jayne Sterne informing me that her prologue was part of a book that was now on sale. I ordered it that hour and waited…
It was worth the wait.
When I discovered the events in the book were true I was horrified. And, once you all read it, you will be too. This stuff happens a lot more than we think
Jayne is an 8-year-old girl who has lived a good part of her life moving around and having to adapt to constant changes. Then a monster enters her life and destroys it.
This is a true story of abuse and each word touched me deeply. There are times I cried and times of relief. Not a page goes by when my eyes weren’t firmly fixed on the words of these horrific events. I don’t want to give too much away as I urge you to purchase this book and see for yourself the powerful effect Jayne Sterne’s words hold.
Have you ever felt alone? Ever felt you need someone to talk to? I just read this book and those feelings disappeared. The story itself helped me to put my worries into perspective. And the way Jayne Sterne writes, you feel as if she is talking to you. Her eloquent flow of words is soothing and comforting despite the horrors she has to tell. The strength of this woman is both inspiring and admirable.
“…because I know only too well what can happen when those essential gifts that every adult can give are taken away.”

Golden rose, thank you so much. your words made me cry, I feel so overwhelmed by all you have said. It has made me feel so very proud of what I have done, and made me realize just how much people care, and how much you care by doing this for me.
For all that has or will by my book Destroyed thank you a million times and more. The more this book is out there, I feel the more it breaks the chains of silence, that has plagued not just myself but thousands of others worldwide. lots of love Jayne Sterne ( author of Destroyed )
Thanks Jayne :-).
I agree, you book should be circulated as much as possible :-)
Touched by Destroyed! Jayne I can only but tell you how much I admire your courage and how I whaled with tears over your immense losses and experiences. How one person can endure so much and come out the other end as strong and as willing to help others as you have I will never know. This book truly touched me like no other, the way you wrote it made you live your horrors and terrible experiences like no other book ever has. Then when you find your strengths along the way you can feel them too. Amazing, truly amazing. Thankyou for sharing. So far I have recommended it to everyone I know. All the very best for the future for you and all your loved ones and may only goodness surround you for the rest of your life!!
Thank you so much, for your kind words. I dont think i will ever stop crying when i read comments like this. It is truely overwelming the kindness and understanding shown. I will always be gratful to everyone that reads my book Destroyed and even more so when you want to contact me. I have just finished reading your book and have found it so compelling and heart rendering. So much so that i have had to come downstairs at 12.30 a.m to find out more about you/Stuart and found this website. I cannot imagine what you went through as a child and as so many times whilst reading your book, my eyes are welling up with tears. I have of late read a few books about child abuse, and none have moved me like yours. Your love for your brother was overwhelming and you kept quiet for all those years whilst you were being abused, protecting him, knowing what his reaction would be. I have 2 brothers and am extremely close to them and would have done the same. Simon was and clearly is a rock to you. I am so sorry for not only the loss of your brother but also of Vicky who was clearly a wonderful sister-in-law and friend. You have managed to come out of this a very strong lady who has managed to make a life for yourself and your children which is admarable. I wish you all a long and happy life together and will be telling everyone about your book.
Hi Ali, thank you so much for your lovely words, infact i have read your comment over and over again with tear fill eyes and a sense of pride. Thank you!
Writing Destroyed has made me see just by reading the comments, there really is good people in this world. thank you again

I am only sixteen and I love books but yours was the one that made me cry and realise that there is some evil in the world. I am deeply inspired by you and from this book that you have written. I couldn’t wait to look you up on the internet to know more about your book, I think you are an amazing women. I am so sorry for what you have been through during your life and that your childhood was ruined. It’s nice to share your life to the rest of the world as I am still learning. My heart goes out to you and the rest of your family. You should be proud of yourself that you are a strong women and that you have overcome these experiences. I am sorry for the loses in your life but you must know that they are with you everyday and all you got to do is think about them and the flow of lovely memorise will come back. I know what it’s like to lose someone close as I have lost my Nan this year and I was extremely close to her, she was also my best friend. When my mum told me she was gone I did a similar thing to what you did, it’s a reaction to the shock I guess. It’s like the floor has been removed from under your feet and you just keep on running. I hope you will have a great future ahead of you and your family.

Georgia, thank you so much for your kind message, although only sixteen I felt you understood the emotions well in the book, and as you say you have also lost someone so very close to you. Im sorry for your loss and hope you also find a better place to be with your loss and also think of the wonderful memories you had with your wonderful nan. thank you also for taking time out of your life to read Destroyed and finding time to leave a message. lots of love jayne sterne xx
Jayne, I have just read Destoyed in one day.I found it to be upsetting, thought provoking, inspiring and a whole load of other things. I think I felt every emotion possible.I have led a pretty sheltered life and I think you are amazing to share the story of your life which has seen so much pain. I so admire your strength of character and think you are an inspiration, to come through the hurt, loss and anguish you have and to be the person you are today is truly something special. If Destroyed causes people to think of others or speak out if they are going through abuse of any kind then it will have achieved something fantastic. I wish you and your family nothing but success, love, health and happiness for the future! Oh and I will recommend your book to everyone I know.

I
have been very touched by Destroyed.Like others here I felt many
emotions and welled up with tears reading it. It is a brave thing that
you have done and I hope many people will read your book and realise
the abuse that is happening to innocent children all around the world
aswell as the violence that happens to adults within a marriage or
partnership.I suffered domestic violence and felt I could not talk
about it but got the strength to end the relationship. You have lost a
lot and my heart goes out to you and I wish you and your family love
and happiness.xxxx
thank you corinne, that means so much. Im on face book if ever you want to contact me. jayne xxxx
